2010 "CHRISTMAS SPIRIT" AT BANGOR
Greetings Everyone!
This post will be Part One of "2010 Christmas in Bangor". I would have liked to have posted the Christmas pictures in December. However, the days were full and there just wasn't enough time to do much "blogging". So hang onto your seats, for there is much to remember!
We had many opportunities to remember: "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season" We hope all of you had as much Christmas Joy in December, as we did! December was so full of activities for us, that we had trouble keeping track of everything. Thank goodness for calendars...otherwise we surely would have missed something!
The Advent theme in our church services was "The Christmas Touch". But more on that later in the next post.
PARTY TIME! A Christmas Party was held with a lovely pot-luck dinner on Saturday, December 16th at the church to get us all in the mood for Christmas. Beautiful Christmas lights and decorations greeted us all as we entered the Fellowship Room.
While people were arriving, a fun Christmas Scavenger Hunt was held to keep us entertained. Did anyone find the "Upside Down M&M's"??? or the "Tongue Depressor"??? These were but a few of the questions that night.
Sorry,Pastor Mitch, that "Singing Snowman" is not going to reveal any of the hiding places, either!
Following a delicious supper, we had a "White Elephant" Gift Exchange. Lots of fun and laughter on that one. I followed where a certain marionette horse puppet traveled during the course of the night. It started with Kisha. But in the final trade of the night, I got the horse! You see our grand-daughter, Zoe, loves horses, and this was going to make the perfect Christmas present for her. And it did! What a fun night!
CHRISTMAS DRAMA! Our next Christmas Adventure was on Tuesday, December 7th. Our friends, Don & Ginny Mack took us to the Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster where we were treated to a musical "The Christmas Miracle". We were greeted in the foyer with a huge, beautiful Christmas tree...nativity scenes like I have never seen before surrounded the base of the tree. The following pictures are but a few of the scenes...didn't have a whole lot of time because we needed to get our tickets and get seated for the show.
"THE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE" The drama took place all around the theater, including live animals. The angels made their debut from the ceiling of the building, sometimes coming across from the back of the auditorium and over the heads of the audience to the front of the stage! "You were there in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus' Birth", because you were in the midst of all the action! It made the Birth of Christ come alive in brand new ways. By the end, I was in tears. Before going to the theater, we did a little sight-seeing in Amish Country, and ate at an Amish Buffet Restaurant. The food was wonderful! Thank you, Don & Ginny for a fantastic day!
MAKING CANDY! On Thursday, December 9th, there was one more Cross Road Baptist fun event for the Adults that got us in the "Christmas Spirit". An old-fashioned Christmas Candy-Making Party! We made candy gift treats for all who would be present on Christmas Sunday. A lot of fun and good fellowship was had by all. There was molded chocolate candy, chocolate-covered pretzels, Don Mack's "Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls" (M-m-m-m!), topped off with a candy cane (which we did NOT make ourselves). Of course, anyone that knows Mitchell knows that he had to be named "Chief Candy-Taster Elf". Ha! Ha! It took a couple of hours, but at last we felt like we would have enough for everyone.
This concludes Part One of 2010 Christmas here in Bangor. More to come!
Mitchell & Wanda
